Nola and Harper put on a show for the Phillies, Alcantara shows Cy Young quality for Marlins
In Philadelphia, Nola and Harper put on an impressive display, while Alcantara displayed Cy Young-caliber qualities for the Marlins
Against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Philadelphia Phillies put on a show with their bat and ball, winning the game 10-0
Late in the game, MVP candidate Bryce Harper joined in on the fun with ace pitcher Aaron Nola on the mound.Nola kept the Brewers at bay for eight innings, allowing just four hits and no walks while striking out six in the process.
In contrast, Adrian Houser of the Milwaukee Brewers had a more difficult outing, as a pair of two-run homers by Bryson Stott and Rhys Hoskins in the third inning blew the game open.Odubel Herrera's solo home run in the fifth inning made it 5-0 before Kyle Schwarber's two RBI doubles in the seventh and ninth inning made it 7-0 before the game ended.
With two outs in the final inning and the game all but over, Harper stepped up to the plate and blasted a 413-foot, three-run home run to put the game away.
Alcantara is awe-inspiring for the Marlins
Sandy Alcantara was the star of the show for the Miami Marlins as they beat the Washington Nationals 2-1 in extra innings at home.Only Alcantara's stellar performance was responsible for both teams failing to score a run in the nine innings of regulation play, with Nationals starter Josiah Gray striking out six in his five innings of shutout work.
It took just 105 pitches for Alcantara to complete the ninth inning for the Marlins, whereas the Nationals needed four pitchers to get through nine innings. This game was decided in the bottom of the 10th inning, when Willians Astudillo and Jesus Aguilar hit back-to-back singles to bring home the winning run for Washington.
Angels plunge to a new low
The Los Angeles Angels lost their 14th straight game as they were shut out 1-0 by the Boston Red Sox at the Staples Center. In his five scoreless innings, Red Sox starter Nathan Eovaldi gave up six hits and no walks, and the bullpen was equally impressive, holding the Angels to just one hit and no walks.
Despite Reid Detmers' strong performance on the mound, a Bobby Dalbec RBI double in the sixth inning was enough for the Boston Red Sox to win the game.
